A New Look at Womanhood Embraced by a New Generation – A New Covenant Platform for Christian Women

In her timely, Biblically based book “God’s Feminist Movement” Amber Picota redefines feminism for today’s generation of Christian women. She describes these women as “gracious, humble, wise, gentle yet strong, diligent, and pure in heart; revolutionaries who shape the course of history.”

Her goal is to equip the reader, women and men, co-heirs in the body of Christ, to study the scriptures in light of the historical background, hermeneutics, and the original languages, to put aside preconceived concepts, and to discern for themselves the application of theses passages to make them applicable for a contemporary setting.

The subjects of women in leadership, submission in marriage, headship, and the cost of trail blazing are especially relevant for today. These are important issues that are being faced in business, education, and politics, issues that cannot be minimized in church life. Picota urges the reader to lead the way in breaking away from traditional misconceptions, and trite clichés to claim the promises and follow the patterns of the New Covenant.

I was deeply moved by Amber’s personal testimony of coming to Christ, the struggles that followed and the unique way that God worked in her spirit to a commitment of her life to fulfill His purpose.

Amber writes from heartfelt convictions, her message is convincing, contagious, and commanding. “God’s Feminist Movement – Redefining “A Woman’s Place” from a Biblical Perspective” is important reading for pastors, organizational ministries, and lay leaders in the Church in this and future generations.

A Refreshing Reminder of the Dynamics of Discipleship

In “Rediscovering Discipleship – Making Jesus’ Final words Our First Work” Dr. Robby Gallaty stresses putting a focus on knowing Jesus before the emphasis on ministry and service for Him. He introduces the model Jesus used in training his followers to be effective disciples..

The book is divided into two parts: Getting to Know Jesus and The Method of Making Disciples.

In Part I, Gallaty discusses the Jewish mindset to help the reader approach and understand their reading and understanding of the Bible in the Hebrew context. He then goes on to show how discipleship developed in the early church, receded and was later re-introduced through the influence of Augustine, Martin Luther, Richard Baxter, Jonathan Edwards, and John Wesley. He looks at more recent influences made by organizations outside the structure of the church, including Campus Crusades and the Navigators.

Gallaty advocates a small group setting for making disciples in what he dubs a “Mc Christian Culture.” I like the practical aspects of his approach. He covers the subjects of authority as a disciple maker, the goals, and the roadblocks you may face.

From the Introduction through to the final Appendix and chapter endnotes “Rediscovering Discipleship – Making Jesus’ Final words Our First Work” has an important message for the contemporary church, and for the individual Christian.

Holy Spirit Inspired Revelation – True Biblical Reformation

In the book “Snakes in the Temple – Unmasking Idolatry in Today’s Church,” visionary and prophetic teacher David Orton challenges his readers to consider the possibilities of reformation, revival, and worldwide spiritual awakening if the Christian Church of today were to restore its Biblical foundations, and to join the next generation in a commitment to see this come to fruition.

The book is organized into three sections. Chapters one through three explore the dream of future revival, while envisioning a spiritual awakening. Section two describes the present realities and a diagnosis of the idolatry found in the church of today. Section three outlines the steps needed for a spiritual breakthrough and a restoration of the glory of the Lord in the church of tomorrow.

Orton draws from spirit breathed scriptures to develop a thorough history of earlier revival in the church, which came about through restoration of worship, harvest, and awakening. He is genuine in his evaluation and in his analysis of the present status and decline of the church.

His conclusions, proposals, call to Holiness, and his prescription for renewal are well thought out, however, they may seem radical to some. Whether Charismatic, Evangelical, or Missional in theological stand, every reader will find practical principles for Christian living, spiritual growth, restoration of Biblical truth, and  revival in the Church.
