The Art and Challenge of Creating a Win/Win Teaching Situation

Using a memoir writing form Judy Woods-Knight tells of her experiences as a career substitute teacher. Her book “Teaching School is a Scream! Confessions of a Career Substitute” is filled with practical advice, lots of humor, and actual classroom experiences.

Judy’s enthusiasm, optimistic spirit, and subtle sense of humor help her face the uncertainties, and hassles so often prevailing in contemporary classrooms. Judy tells of the excitement and challenge “of daring children to cooperate and have real fun learning.”

In her preface Judy talks about the reasons she chose to become a substitute rather than having her “own classroom and all the benefits that go along with a full-time job.”  She goes on to develop some of the advantages for anyone who may be in the process of change or in the early stages of preparation for a career in teaching.

In a natural and logical progression Judy offers recommendations for creating a “Tool Kit” as well as back up plans for your first day as a substitute. She then moves into Part 1 of the book which is filled practical ideas for dealing with unforeseen dilemmas, with humorous and heartwarming stories, and with those unexpected miracles that bring joy and hope back to the classroom.

The final sections of the book deal with hands-on suggestions and illustrations for defusing problems and preventing disasters; she concludes with dozens of resource ideas and valuable suggestion for making learning fun.

Whether a Regular Classroom teacher or a Career Substitute you will resonate with Judy Knight’s heartwarming stories, real-world examples, and fun loving sense of humor.

Laughter: A Prescription for Releasing Stress. Building Confidence, and Increasing Self-Worth

“Flightmares, Sky – High Humor” is filled with subtle wit, quotes and jokes attributed to well-known aviators, and, comedians. The pages are packed with “laugh a minute” twists, oddities, and idiosyncrasies; humor that is guaranteed to tickle the funny bone.

I especially enjoyed comments alluded to anonymous flight attendants, passengers, and pilots. I couldn’t help myself; I laughed, chuckled, and cracked up as I read the problems and solutions recorded by pilots and their mechanics.

The clever and imaginative cartoon illustrations created by Khairul Izzuddin add to the wit of an already hilarious collection, using well-chosen concepts related to air travel, customer service, and aeronautical procedures.

Bob recognized the physical benefits of laughter. There is healing in laughter.   Doctors are prescribing “laughter” for relieving stress. Studies have established that laughing releases endorphins which stimulate feeling of caring and forgiveness, which create a positive state of the mind and “boost” optimism, self-confidence and feelings of self-worth.

Robert D. Reed is known for his love of fun by his family, his friends, and business associates. As you pick up “Flightmares, Sky High Humor,” be sure to allow yourself the extra benefit of laughter, out loud laughter that triggers the endorphins to do their magic.

Fun filled entertainment at its Best

“Math Jokes 4 Mathy Folks” is a collection of funny jokes. Some are written for kids under the age of 10, some for preteen, others for teens or young adults, and still others for an adult audience. For the greatest effectiveness the appropriateness of time, place, and audience of the joke must be kept in mind. G. Patrick Vennebush has arranged the jokes in “Math Jokes 4 Mathy Folks” accordingly, by level of difficulty, from the youngest math student to an advanced math major, or the professional mathematician

The selections range from daffy definitions and pertinent puns, to one liner, and graphic jokes. I especially enjoyed the sections titled “Same Question – Different Answers” and “Professions.” The book is must read for math instructors, home school parents, math tutors, and other math fanatics.

Decidedly Entertaining

Award winning author Malcolm Kushner, often recognized as “America’s Favorite Humor Consultant,” adds a new title to his repertoire of published collections of quips, quotes, jokes, and anecdotes. “The Official Book of Mob Humor” is packed with wit, wisdom, and headlines featuring quirks, oddities, and idiosyncrasies, of the mob. Kushner’s humor is guaranteed to tickle the funny bone every law abiding citizen, officer of the law, as well as the families and associates of Mafia members from every ethnic group.

I especially enjoyed the creative message and imagination in the cartoon illustrations drawn by Kenny Durkins.  Another of the featured that kept me laughing was the chapter “Headline Hits” made up of humor found in actual newspaper headlines.  “The Interrogation Room” contains Mob Q & A, featuring hilarious one line riddle like questions with funny quip answers from “downright corny” to “brilliantly clever.”

For movie fans Kushner includes a comprehensive list of “mob related comedies” with wild hilarious plots involving mobsters, racketeers, and criminals from every imaginable diversity.  He also includes memorable quotes from these movies.

In a day when the experts are touting “laughing” as a way for finding health and happiness, and doctors are prescribing “laughter” as a stress reliever, Malcolm Kushner’s humor  is destined to establish this book as “The Official Book of Mob Humor.”  Decidedly entertaining.  Highly recommended.
